Do your bit to help the environment during National Picnic Month. Keep Britain tidy have created the #KeepItBinIt campaign to encourage the general public to either take their litter home or put it in the closest bin!

After the year that we have experienced, it is important now more than ever to get out of the house and enjoy the company of those who we are the closest to.

July is National Picnic Month, which encourages people to enjoy eating outdoors and getting out in the fresh air. As much as we want to encourage you to get outside and enjoy that lovely picnic, we all must do our bit to keep everywhere clean and free of litter too.

Did you know: Over 48% of UK residents admit to littering

In addition to keeping our parks and greenspaces clean, the prevention of litter can help to reduce the increasing numbers of deaths and injuries to animals caused by the incorrect disposal of litter.

In Scotland alone, an average of £46 million is spent per year on clearing litter. This is an astonishing amount of money, which could have been repurposed towards helping create protected land for wildlife, provide animal conservations, or to boost the economy.

Litter attracts more litter, statistics show that when people see litter, they are more likely to drop litter as they do not see the harm. This is not the case; if you see an area where there is litter you could arrange a scheduled litter pick, or even report it to your local authority.

Any form of litter will directly affect the environment as it takes a while for any discarded waste to decompose.

Did you know: An apple takes 2 months to fully decompose. Chewing gum can take 5- 1000 years; imagine how many animals can get hurt or killed by ingesting that.

Creating cohesive picnic spaces is the best place to start on your journey to tackling litter, by pairing a Land Picnic Bench with an Okehampton Redwood Litter Bin, or a Litchard Picnic Unit with a Westliegh Litter bin you can provide picnic goers with a space to #BinIt whilst enjoying their alfresco lunch.

So, if you want to enjoy this National Picnic Month, whilst conserving the environment do not litter, #KeepItBinIt!
