A bespoke timber pergola has become a beautiful feature for employees to enjoy at a leading hub for pioneering science and technology businesses.
Harwell Science and Innovation Campus announced ambitious expansion plans in 2018 designed to attract the world’s leading high-tech companies and develop the UK’s talent pool.
It included a number of new, purpose-built units including laboratories, offices and logistics facilities.
The designs for the buildings incorporated stunning views across a landscaped area, which could be seen from boardrooms to restaurants.
Working for contractor SDC Builders Ltd, our design and build team liaised with architects to realise their vision for a cantilevered pergola in the grounds of the campus.
Constructed using FSC certified timber, the pergola is more than 19 metres long and features faceted iroko roof purlins and galvanised steelwork.
The pergola incorporates a stainless steel trellis system, with cables strung from every roof slat to the floor.
Four steel framed timber benches are located below the pergola with a further five benches installed throughout the landscaped area.
Timber bollards, finished with a steel cap and vertical centre, complete the project.
