As part of a development scheme “Broxap Dorothea” were commissioned to design, manufacture and install a first floor balcony structure to both enhance the existing building exterior and provide valuable, covered open-space to the property. Located in the Little Germany area of Bradford the scheme was designed along a “Heritage” theme to provide an attractive structure largely focused around an impressive, tiered, barrel vault feature entrance canopy with a detailed inlaid glazed fanlight.

To achieve synergy with the building and its surroundings, traditional period detailing and manufacturing techniques were utilised to produce the cast elements that comprise the make-up of the canopy structure. The canopy was flashed to the building to prevent water ingress, embellished with a globe lantern lighting solution and then finished with traditional, decorative handrail and balustrade components.

The roof was glazed in polycarbonate whereas the balustrade, link ring beams, spandrel brackets, columns and glazing bars were manufactured in aluminium to achieve a clean, sharp finish and to ensure the longevity of the structure. Installed in the early 90’s it is obvious to see that the structure has stood the test of time and that the quality of the materials and manufacture is still evident for all to see two decades later. Broxap achieved this project by using elements and designs from the Dorothea TM portfolio of traditional canopies.
