Rankin Gait Shopping Centre, Carluke

Rankin Gait Shopping Centre is a well-established retail parade in the heart of Carluke, South Lanarkshire, serving a resident population of around 13,500 with a mix of high street names and independent traders.

Client: Joseph Leckie & Sons Ltd

Year: 2025

As part of ongoing improvements to the centre's outdoor public areas, Broxap supplied a coordinated range of seating and planting from the Andromeda collection, giving shoppers and visitors a smarter, more comfortable environment to enjoy.

Broxap's Andromeda Small Bench was installed to provide compact, low-maintenance seating throughout the centre's pedestrianised areas. Reinforced with steel for strength, the bench is built to withstand daily footfall and the demands of a busy shopping environment, while its sleek, understated profile suits the modern feel of the centre. An FSC® certified timber seat with backrest was specified alongside the concrete base, adding a warmer, more comfortable finish for shoppers taking a moment to rest, without compromising on the strength and vandal resistance the concrete structure provides.

For areas requiring more generous seating capacity, the Andromeda Large Bench was installed to give shoppers a place to sit for longer. At three metres in length, the large bench offers the same sleek profile and steel-reinforced construction as its smaller counterpart, helping keep a consistent, joined-up look across the whole scheme while providing extra capacity where it's needed most.

To complement the new seating, Broxap supplied Andromeda Concrete Planters in the Mid Square and Rectangular configurations. Manufactured with drainage holes in the base and finished to match the surrounding benches, the planters introduce greenery and soften the hard landscaping around the centre, while also helping to define pedestrian routes and seating areas. Specifying planters from the same Andromeda range as the seating ensured a cohesive look throughout the site, rather than a mismatched collection of separate product lines.

Together, the new benches and planters have given Rankin Gait Shopping Centre a smartened, more welcoming public realm — offering shoppers somewhere comfortable to sit and rest, while the planting brings a softer, greener feel to the surrounding hard landscaping.
