Oadby & Wigston Borough Council partnered with Broxap to refresh the street furniture across Wigston Town Centre, delivering a coordinated package of wayfinding signage, cycle parking and waste and winter maintenance provision.

Wigston Town Centre required an upgrade to its public realm infrastructure to support pedestrian wayfinding, encourage active travel, and maintain a clean, well-serviced environment for residents, shoppers and visitors. The council's requirements spanned three core areas:

Wayfinding and directional signage to help pedestrians and visitors navigate the town centre
Secure, durable cycle parking to support cycling as part of the town's active travel provision
Litter and grit storage to keep the town centre clean and safe throughout the year, including in winter conditions

Consistency of material and finish across all three categories was a key consideration, with stainless steel specified throughout to give the scheme a unified, low-maintenance appearance.

Broxap supplied a coordinated street furniture package of five product lines for the Wigston Town Centre scheme:

Wayfinding Signage

Stafford Signage Columns, supplied in Grade 304 stainless steel with a brush finish. Each column was fitted with Stainless Steel Finger Arms, giving the council flexibility to direct pedestrians to key destinations across the town centre. The Stafford column is designed with a 500mm submerged fixing for a secure, low-profile installation, and each finger arm is produced with vinyl text and a visual proof provided for sign-off before manufacture, a useful step for local authority clients coordinating multiple destination names and symbols across a scheme.

Cycle Parking

Stainless Steel Sheffield Cycle Stands, manufactured in Grade 304 stainless steel. The Sheffield stand remains one of the most widely specified cycle parking solutions in the UK, valued for its simplicity, its ability to support both frame and wheel locking, and its unobtrusive profile within a streetscape. The stands support Wigston's wider active travel ambitions, giving cyclists secure, well-located parking within the town centre.

Litter and Winter Maintenance

304 Stainless Steel Derby Standard Litter Bins were installed to provide high-capacity, durable waste containment across the town centre. Constructed from 2mm 304 stainless steel with perforated faces, a front-opening service door and a stainless steel slam lock mechanism, the Derby Standard is built for high-footfall public realm locations where servicing needs to be quick and security needs to be reliable.

Alongside the litter bins, 285 Litre Grit Bins were supplied to support the council's winter maintenance programme, providing accessible grit and salt storage for icy conditions on footways and access routes through the town centre.

The scheme's reliance on Grade 304 stainless steel across signage, cycle parking and litter bins reflects a deliberate approach to long-term value in a public realm setting:
