An awkward space now has function and purpose with the addition of a bespoke L-shaped canopy from Broxap.
Students at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman can step out into a dry and airy walkway which also serves the outdoor food hub in the school grounds.
The £28,000 bespoke project marks the latest phase of improvements at the school which underwent a £21 million refurbishment in 2015.
Working with contractor Tycroes Group for Carmarthenshire County Council, we designed a canopy based on our Newcastle Senior Shelter.
The walkway took into account the space around the existing school buildings and was manufactured to specifically accommodate underground services and foundations.
This included incorporating wall fixings into the design and extending the length of one section to avoid protruding overhangs.
Our contract teams followed site protocol to ensure minimal disruption at the school during the project.
Manufactured at our Chesterton fabrication plant, the shelter was made up of two sections, set at right angles.
The asymmetric style canopy was clad in clear UV resistant PETg to let in lots of light and the frame was powder coated Traffic White to complement existing paintwork.

Broxap’s complete shelters for schools package deals also include concrete pad foundations and guttering and downpipes.
