Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme

Pochin Construction Ltd is one of the North West’s leading construction and property development groups. In 2016 the business secured the contract to deliver a contemporary care village in the town centre of Newcastle-under-Lyme. The new care village is run by charitable organisation and dementia specialists, Belong.

Having acquired the land which included a Grade II Listed Building, Belong decided to create a ‘Heritage Gallery’ in addition to facilities and support available to 100+ residents. Pochin Ltd restored the property. Across the centuries it had been a pot-works, an inn, a community centre and a nightclub before falling into disrepair. Pochin’s CEO Jim Nicholson said the project’s aim was to “return the site to community use whilst retaining and celebrating the features that make it such a historic building”.

In order to fulfil the project’s requirements of gardens, landscaping and parking, Pochins called on Broxap to assist with exterior furniture. We provided outdoor seating, bollards to line the pathways, and cycle parking facilities.

Broxap street furniture often acts as a means of combining the traditional with the modern. Our ‘Buckingham’ Seat is an elegant bench in Iroko hardwood which we supplied in a planed and sanded finish.

At Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme these traditional timber seats sit alongside units from our contemporary ‘Easthorpe’ range. The Easthorpe Seat comprises of Hardwood Iroko timber slats and galvanised frame and can be manufactured to bespoke specification as required. We supplied a full circle with outward-facing seats as well as several free-standing, inward-facing units, positioned in a part-circle design. The galvanised seating frames have been powder in Anthracite Grey to match elements of the new buildings.

In addition to attractive seating solutions, we installed our Stainless Steel Bollards which act as a guide between pedestrian and vehicular areas. They have a slightly domed top and a matt satin polish. Furthermore, Broxap’s galvanised mild steel, ‘Sheffield’ Cycle Stands will give staff and residents the opportunity to stay active.

Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme opened on the 9th April 2018. The public-facing Heritage Gallery features a tea room, a recreated Old Pomona Inn with licensed bar, and a reminiscence room.
