Brownedge St Mary’s Catholic High School required a large scale outdoor dining area to accommodate pupils at lunch times and become an extension to the existing indoor dining area.
Taking the basis of a Newcastle Symmetric shelter and by use of panels and push bar (Fire Exit) doors the shelter became an enclosed dining area.
Access is via further asymmetric covered walkways at each end incorporated between existing school buildings, again entrance to the main area is through push bar doors (Fire Exit) situated at either end.
Coloured dining tables within the shelter finish off the area giving a bright feel and the polycarbonate roofing and sides provide a light and airy feel to the interior of the shelter whilst the roof polycarbonate actively reduces UV rays to the area within.
