As a responsible manufacturer, we are continually looking for ways to optimise our processes for the benefit of the environment.
Over the last two years, a series of significant investments have been made in our office and fabrication sites. Each has been considered not only to deliver an improved impact on performance, but also for minimal impact on the environment.
We want our customers to be sure that specifying Broxap Street Furniture means they are not only assured a quality product, but also a responsibly manufactured product.

Manufacturing sustainably with timber

Timber is said to be nature’s own building material.
Because we use responsibly sourced timber as well as FSC-certified timber, we support sustainable forestry from well-managed sites.
Timber is fully renewable with replenished forests helping to regulate the climate and clean the air, as well as support the earth’s biodiversity.
The production and processing of wood also uses less energy than with many other building materials.
With the development of structural timber, such as glulam beams, we’ve expanded our timber product range over the years to include contemporary seating, timber canopies, bollards and playground equipment.
Offering natural strength properties and delivering an attractive look and feel to products, using timber results in products with a long and durable service life.
But thanks to our factory innovations, the benefits of manufacturing with timber are stretching much further.

Whole product cycle

At our base in Chesterton, North Staffordshire, we’re investing in six wood waste heaters.
As well as reducing our reliance on other forms of energy for heat, we’re putting our wood waste to good use.
Briquetting technology has in the first instance been purchased by our teams who are always looking for ways to improve efficiency.
The briquetting machine takes hardwood shavings and sawdust waste generated in the timber workshop and processes it into ‘bales’ for use in the burners.
These are then burned cleanly in our WT15 Heater Units.
The investment comes on the back of our certification as a Zero Waste to Landfill business.
Already we ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’ materials wherever possible, gaining the most we can from them while generating the least waste.
This includes reusing timber offcuts from our wood workshop as spacers when packing finished products and recycling softwood shavings from the extraction system as animal bedding.

Supporting the sustainability aims of clients

Of course, as one the UK’s leading designers, manufacturers and suppliers of litter and recycling bins, we also help our customers to avoid sending waste to landfill.
And the longevity of our high quality products also delivers a greater environmental impact by contributing to sustainable consumption.
