Street furniture originally put in place to support Covid-19 social distancing restrictions led to such a boost in active travel rates, more permanent schemes have been adopted.
A series of high-quality Concrete Benches and Concrete Planters were ordered from Broxap by Glasgow City Council under the Spaces for People scheme.
The street furniture was used as a method of widening pavements, closing some roads to traffic and segregating cycle lanes.
Following on from an uptake in the numbers of people choosing to walk or cycle as a result of the changes, the majority of the Spaces for People schemes are now either permanent or in the process of becoming permanent.

The council chose Auriga Concrete Benches and Andromeda Large Rectangular Concrete Planters from the Calzolari contemporary street furniture range available from Broxap.
These feature in the Merchant City area of Glasgow as well as the residential Dennistoun district, outside Alexandra Parade Primary School.
In total, 86 planters and 26 benches feature in the intervention schemes which carve out little pockets of the streets to prevent use by motor vehicles and encourage visits by pedestrians and cyclists.
Spaces for People also helped to expand school car free zones, prohibiting vehicles from driving up to school gates in peak times and creating extra space for walking, wheeling and cycling.
The scheme was supported by funding from the Scottish Government administered by Sustrans Scotland.
