Manchester City Football Club were looking for a number of sports and spectator shelters for their brand new state of the art Training Academy complex.

In the initial stages, Turner & Townsend approached both our Commercial and Technical Directors and they were invited Broxap (or us) to discuss cost saving ideas for the spectator shelters required on this project, prior to the main contractors appointment, as early budget quotes were significantly above the target cost plan.

Various alternative cladding options were considered during these discussions, however it was a case study from a previous Broxap structure project in Aberdeenshire that was ultimately written into the revised Employer Requirements.

The previous contract’s Broxap’s “Murcar” golf driving range shelter was modified to fit within the terrace seating envelope and two bespoke sizes were incorporated.

After successful award of the contract, we delivered a full project management service, providing Bespoke Spectator shelters to 6 different pitches, A bespoke Newcastle Senior shelter to house ground maintenance equipment and 14 Dugout Shelters to various pitches.

Following the grand opening of this £200m facility, the new shelters take pride of place on the pitches at this prestigious academy and are now in full use. The ‘Etihad Academy’ as its more commonly know is now being is hailed as the best of its kind in the world.
