Playground equipment to support the prime areas of learning and development at the nursery at St Antony’s Catholic Primary School has proved a hit with pupils and teachers.
The addition of artificial grass surfacing has made the garden an exciting and inviting area for children to explore.
Working with teachers and construction partners, the Hand Made Places team came up with a playground scheme which incorporates equipment for physical development; communication and language skills; and personal, social and emotional development.
St Antony’s, in Essex, has included lots of elements of discovery in the playground, including an Extra Large Sandpit and a Double Ocean Tray and Chute to help little ones get to grips with different textures and concepts.
Sand and water play can be used to introduce science and maths lessons helping children to explore outcomes while improving their communication and social skills. For good hygiene, wetpour safety surfacing was laid around the sand pit.
Their finds from outside can be examined more closely at the Discovery Table with Tray while a Dry Wipe Board and a Chalk Board are outlets for children to express themselves.
Sensory play is supported with the addition of Chimes and Rainbow Sambas from our Outdoor Musical Instrument range. Fine motor skills are put to the test with a Woodland Finger Maze.
And when it comes to language development, we’ve created a story time corner complete with Storyteller’s Chair and seven Button Stools each engraved with a different insect.
The Congo Rope Climber offers a challenging way for children to engage in active play while the Play Den provides essential shade and shelter as well as a foundation for imaginative play.
