Broxap’s design and build team worked quickly and efficiently to create an outdoor classroom canopy for Ravensdale Infant and Nursery School which had to be rebuilt following a fire.
The school was left in ruins following the arson attack in October 2020.
Derby City Council had to act swiftly to replace the facilities in the shortest timeframe possible, while pupils were offered space at other nearby schools.
Once appointed, Morgan Sindall Construction initiated a speedy response to minimise the impact on children’s learning calling on Broxap as part of its supply chain to support the build.
Our design office responded, rising to the challenge of creating a bespoke outdoor classroom canopy for reception pupils.
Based on our Newcastle Monopitch Canopy, the freestanding structure is more than 34 metres long and accessed directly from the school building.
Its blue, green and white polycarbonate clad roof reflects the cladding on the main school building, and it is finished with protective foam pads around the galvanised steel upright posts.
Morgan Sindall Construction took advantage of modular construction methods to enhance the efficiency of the build, which was designed and constructed off site.
And as our engineering and production teams all work from under one roof at our North Staffordshire base, we were able to accelerate the delivery of the canopy element to meet the tight deadlines.
While time was of the essence, our quality build standards were not compromised.
The school reopened on time and on budget in June 2022, allowing Ravensdale to learn together again.
The modern learning environment includes teaching and play space for more than 300 pupils with 10 classrooms, hall, library and SEN room.
The canopy created by Broxap allows each class to enjoy time learning outdoors as well as in their new single-storey building which was reconfigured over the original footprint to maximise the available space.
